Description

ST 66 NE KELSTON KELSTON MILLS (south side)

3/104 Nos. 29-34 (consec.)

9.1.76 II

G.V.

Row of six brassworkers' cottages, now five cottages as Nos. 31 and 32 are one cottage. Probably c. 1760's for William Champion's brassworks. Coursed rubble with a double Roman tiled roof, a brick ridge and chimney. 3 storeys. Single 2-light casement window under a segmental head to each cottage. Doorways under segmental heads to each cottage, mostly C20 doors; Nos. 30, 32, 33 and 34 have C20 porches; No. 31 is blocked and is now a window. Continuous single storey lean-to at rear. These houses, and Nos. 26-28 (q.v.), are unusual as a row of 3 storey houses in a rural setting and are also early examples of workers' housing.
