Description
This is a mid-19th century terrace of four shops with living accommodation above, located on St Saviour’s Road in Larkhall. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs. The terrace has a double-depth plan.
Architecturally, it is three storeys high with a single window facing the street for each property. Nos. 1 and 4 have canted corners. No. 1 has a window and a blind return on its corner, and No. 4 has two windows on its return. The shop frontages are largely original, although No. 2 has a more modern window. Nos. 1, 3, and 4 demonstrate good examples of shop fronts from the period, with Nos. 1 and 4 extending around the corner – the corner entrance is on the canted face, with an additional bay on the return. All windows are plain sashes. A platband is visible at the second floor level, stepped from 1 to 4. The eaves are supported by console brackets, and the roofs are plain with shared ashlar stacks topped with pots. The rear elevation is not visible.
The terrace is recognised for its group value as a cohesive mid-Victorian row reflecting ongoing classical influences and featuring a well-preserved run of contemporary shop fronts. The interior has not been inspected.
