Description
This is a mid-18th century footbridge located over a footpath between Fersfield and Prior Park Farm Woods. The bridge is constructed from rubble, with some tufa and cut stone used for the vaulting. It features a single span arch supported by vertical abutments, creating a tunnel-like structure that crosses a sunken footpath. The bridge is partially built on a natural rock outcrop. The opening is approximately 2.25 meters wide, rising to about 2.5 meters at the upper end of the path and approximately 3 meters at the lower end, with the tunnel measuring around 4.5 meters in length. The facades are made of rubble, with rough tufa voussoirs and some tufa used for the rough parapets. The walls and arch are constructed from carefully cut and coursed horizontal stone. At the southern or higher end, the bridge is enclosed by boundary walls to the sunken path, while at the lower end, it has short return walls that are approximately 6 meters apart.
