Description
The Pocock headstone in Smallcombe Cemetery is a Grade II listed memorial dating from around 1924. It is made of limestone and bronze. The headstone features a panelled base that supports a cylindrical section, which carries a roundel at the front framed by a roll. The front displays a bronze relief of the Crucifixion, accompanied by doves, a winged seraph, and figures embracing behind it. The inscription commemorates Ethel Pocock, who died in 1924. This headstone is noted for its unusual quality for its time and represents a late example of explicitly Christian symbolism in a monument.
