Description

This is a terrace house built around 1795, with alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a 20th-century slate mansard roof, featuring a central dormer with paired windows and moulded stacks to the right party wall. Originally a two-window range, the front now incorporates a two-storey canted bay to the first and ground floors. The building has a coped parapet and cornice, which are slightly lower than the terrace to its right. Continuous sill bands run along the second and first floors, and a platband defines the ground floor. The windows are plate glass sashes; there are two to the second floor, and one to each face of the bay, with cornices, blocking courses, and moulded sills. The door on the left is a six-panel design with margin panes to the overlight, radial voussoirs, and a keystone that blends into the platband. Similar voussoirs are visible on a blocked window to the right, and also on the ground floor window of the bay, which may have been repositioned. The interior, inspected by Bath Council in 1983, was unremarkable. An advertisement from September 1794 announced the construction of two unfinished houses and a shop on Edward Street, indicating the development was affected by the building slump of that year.
