Description

The building is a former free school, now functioning as a house and parish room, dated 1698 and restored and extended in 1911. It is constructed of coursed rubble with freestone quoins and dressings, featuring a plain and fish-scale tiled roof with coped raised verges. The structure has two storeys and attics, and includes five 2-light casement windows with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, all under continuous dripmoulds.

The central entrance features a studded and panelled door with strap hinges, set in a bolection moulded surround and topped with a semi-circular hood supported by carved consoles. Above the door, there are arms and an inscription that reads: "This Free Schoole was built and/Endowed att the charge of RICHARD/JONES of Stowey in the County of/Somerset-Esq. Anno Dmni 1698". Below this, it states "RESTORED CORONATION YEAR. 1911". To the left of the main building is the parish room, which has 2- and 4-light cross windows in ovolo moulded surrounds.

The front garden wall is made of rubble and features two sets of square ashlar gatepiers with moulded caps and ball finials.
