Description
This is a terrace of four houses located at 15-18 St Mark’s Road, dating from around 1830. The front is constructed of limestone ashlar, while the rear is of coursed and squared stone. The rear roof of number 16 is slate, number 18 has pantiles, and the remainder are concrete tiles. These are double-depth houses featuring a central valley gutter. Each house is three stories high with a two-window front. The windows are mainly twelve-pane sashes, although number 15 has plain plate glass windows on the ground floor and number 16 has them on the second floor. The first-floor windows have a moulded cornice on brackets and a sill band. The main entrance is on the right-hand side, with a panelled door and a shallow transom light. A broad ground floor platband, moulded cornice, shallow blocking course, and parapet are present, with the parapet returning at the right-hand end to a flat centre across the valley. Two ashlar stacks are visible on the coped party divisions, although the stacks have been removed from number 18. The rear of the houses are characterised by twelve-pane sashes, some smaller lights and various small extensions. The interiors have not been inspected. This section of the St Mark’s Road terrace retains more original detail than other parts of the street (numbers 1-6 and 7-14).
