Description
Chelscombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1651, with early 19th century alterations. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with freestone dressings and features a steeply pitched double Roman tile roof with stacks at the coped gable ends. The building has a five-unit plan, with a rear left wing and flanking single-storey wings.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with a basement and has a symmetrical five-window front. It showcases ovolo moulded stone mullions on two-light, two-pane casement windows that have 19th century glazing. There is a continuous moulded string course and a semicircular relieving arch above the ground floor and basement windows. The central porch is enclosed with a Cotswold stone roof, featuring moulded kneelers on the coped gable, and displays a worn heraldic achievement along with the date set in a diagonal square panel above a semi-elliptical arch. The Tudor arched door is planked and studded, with a moulded architrave that stops at the base. The left wing has a high pitched roof and double planked doors, while the right wing contains a two-light casement to the right and a planked door to the left.
The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have 18th century moulded architraves on the planked doors.
