Description
The barn, coach house, stables, pig-sties, and attached outbuildings at Manor Farmhouse date from the 15th century and are notable for their rare hammer-beam roof. The structures are built of rubble with freestone dressings and feature a double Roman tiled roof with coped raised verges and finials. The traditional layout includes opposing gabled projecting porches with side buttresses and square-headed cart entries, along with single lights in the gables. Inside the barn, there are seven bays supported by four hammer beam trusses with arch-braced collar beams, while the remaining trusses are tie-and-collar beams with struts.
To the left of the barn is a 19th-century stable and loft that projects outward, featuring a pantile roof, slit vents, and two doors in the gable end. Adjacent to the left porch is a pig-sty enclosed by an outer wall, and to the right is a 19th-century lean-to outbuilding with an ashlar upper section. At the far right of the barn is a single-storey building from the late 16th to early 17th century, which has a loft and steep gables on the south and east sides. This building includes chamfered and four-centre headed loft doorways, along with 19th and 20th-century doorways on the ground floor and a large timber lintel on the south elevation.
At the rear, the former coach house is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with freestone dressings and has a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with three windows, featuring 20th-century casements on the ground floor and two 2- and 3-light casements in ovolo moulded surrounds. The central coach entry is large and round-headed but is now blocked.
