Description

This is a terrace of eight houses, numbered 7 to 14, located on St Mark’s Road. The houses were built around 1830, with later 20th-century additions. They are constructed with limestone ashlar facades, coursed squared stone to the rear, and concrete tile roofs, though the rear slope of number 7 has slate. The terrace is double-depth in design, with a central valley gutter running along the front.

Each house is three storeys high and has a single window to the front elevation. Most of the windows are sash windows with plain glass, though numbers 13 and 14 have twelve panes in each sash. Number 11 has twelve panes on the ground and second floors, while number 10 has had its windows replaced in the late 20th century. All first-floor windows have a moulded cornice supported by brackets. Each house has a panelled front door with a shallow transom light to the right-hand side, and number 13 features a 20th-century tent hood over its door. The front of the building has a ground-floor platband, a moulded cornice with a shallow blocking course, and a parapet running the full width. Two ashlar stacks, some of which have been cropped, are located at the party walls between the houses.

The rear elevation features mainly twelve-pane sashes, including staircase windows. Some ground-floor windows have sixteen panes, and there are various small extensions at ground floor level. The front has gatepiers with shallow pyramidal caps. The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is slightly stepped down from the adjacent properties at numbers 1 to 6, and continues seamlessly with numbers 15 to 18.
