Description
Victoria Place features a row of eight terrace houses built in the late 1830s, situated on a tapering off-square site. The houses are constructed from limestone ashlar with concrete tile roofs and moulded stacks on the party walls. Each house has a double depth plan with rear additions.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a basement, with single-window fronts for each house, except for No. 1, which has a two-window front and is one room deep on the right side. The terrace has a continuous parapet, a cornice, and a second-floor sill band, along with banded rustication and a platband at the ground floor. Most houses feature six-over-six pane sash windows, although No. 7 has plate glass sashes, some of which include balconettes. The first-floor windows are adorned with moulded architraves, cornices on consoles, and recessed aprons between the sills and platbands. Overlights are present above the six-panel doors, which have raised upper panels. The entrance to No. 8A is located at the rear wing on the right and features a similar door set under a cornice on consoles. House numbers are carved into the lintels.
The interiors were not inspected. This terrace is a fine example of the house building style in Bath at the end of the Georgian period and presents an elegant overall composition.
