Description

Manor House Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, dated 1664 on a fireplace. It is constructed of rubble with freestone dressings, featuring a double Roman tiled roof with coped raised verges and finials. The building is arranged over two storeys and attics, with two steep, coped gables. It originally had three bays, with four windows on the ground floor and three on the first, all fitted with 2- and 3-light casement windows with ovolo moulded mullions, surrounds, and dripmoulds. A central plank door is set within a plain surround and sheltered by a 20th-century hood. Later single-storey, single-bay wings were added to each side of the main building. The rear features a stair tower and a two-storey gabled wing. Inside, the ground floor room to the left boasts beams with an exceptionally wide ovolo moulding and bar and run-out stops. The chamber above contains a fine freestone fireplace (now painted), decorated with a 4-centred head, a moulded overmantel, and a cornice, bearing the initials “TMD 1664”. The roof features extended collar beam trusses.
