Description
The Church of St John Baptist is an Anglican parish church built in 1894 by architects Bodley and Garner. It is constructed from machine cut snecked rubble and features slate roofs. The church comprises a nave, south porch, transepts, north aisle, vestry, chancel, and south chapel, all designed in a loosely Decorated style. Each section has its own gabled roof with raised coped verges. The three-bay nave includes an octagonal capped bellcote above a two-light west bay. On the south side, there are two four-centred arch windows with hoodmoulds and weathered buttresses. The south porch features a plain door beneath a drip. The transepts have similar three-light windows. The north aisle mirrors the south side of the nave, while the vestry has an ogee-headed door next to a three-light window with chamfered mullions, both under a continuous drip, and a trefoil-headed two-light window to the east. The chancel has a three-light east window.
