Description

This is a house, built around 1775 (with a lease dated 1774), and later converted into flats in the 20th century. It was likely designed by Thomas Warr Atwood and developed by The Corporation of Bath and Richard Atwood. The front is faced with limestone ashlar, and the double-pile mansard roof is covered with Welsh slate to the front and artificial slate to the rear. The roof has a coped party wall with two stacks; the front stack is ashlar, while the rear is reconstituted stone and includes some early clay pots. A rear staircase is also present.

The house has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a three-window front. The first floor has three plate glass sash windows with horns, set within ovolo moulded architraves that feature splayed jambs with friezes and cornices. The sills are moulded stone and are supported by console brackets with wrought iron balconettes. The second floor mirrors this design, with plate glass sash windows in ovolo architraves. On the ground floor are two plate glass sash windows with splayed jambs and stone sills, alongside an eight-panel door with fielded panels and two glazed panels. The door has a cast iron lion's mask knocker within a cyma moulded architrave, featuring heavy moulded console brackets and a moulded cornice. A pennant paved crossover is flush with the pavement. The basement has two two-over-two sash windows, the window to the left now a two-over-one, protected by wrought iron guard bars with shaped heads. There's a cut-down five-panel door with a six-pane overlight, set within an ashlar infill, leading to C20 area steps. Two dormers house six-over-six sash windows. Further detailing includes a band course at ground floor level, a modillion eaves cornice, a coped parapet, a moulded lead hopperhead, and a partial lead downpipe.

The rear elevation is partially visible and includes a six-over-six sash window to the half landing and a two-over-two sash to the second floor, along with a lead hopperhead.

The interior remains uninspected. Attached to the property are wrought iron railings and a gate, set on limestone bases with shaped heads.
