Description

This is a house, dating to approximately 1775 (with a lease dated 1774), that has been converted into flats in the 20th century. It was likely designed by Thomas Warr Atwood and developed by The Corporation of Bath and Richard Atwood. The front of the house is faced with limestone ashlar, while the rear is a mix of reconstituted stone and original ashlar. It has a double-pile plan and a mansard roof covered with Welsh slate to the front and artificial slate to the rear. The building includes a coped party wall with two chimney stacks to the left, original clay pots to the front stack, and a rebuilt rear stack without pots.

The building has three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a three-window front. On the first floor are three nine/nine sash windows with ovolo moulded architraves, splayed jambs, friezes and cornices, lowered moulded stone sills, and wrought iron balconettes. The second floor has three six/six sash windows with similar architraves and stone sills. The ground floor has two six/six sash windows to the left, a six-panel door with an overlight in a heightened doorcase with console brackets and a moulded cornice, and a pennant paved crossover flush with the pavement. The basement has a six/six sash window with wrought iron guard bars, a blocked six-pane door with a 20th-century overlight, and a narrow four/four sash window. There are two dormers with six/six sashes. Other external features include a band course over the ground floor, a modillion eaves cornice, a coped parapet and a partially visible rear elevation with six/six sash windows.

The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the property are wrought iron railings and a gate with shaped heads on limestone bases.
