Description

Barton Meade House is a circa 1720 house located on Kilmersdon Road, Haydon. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a red tile roof and stone ridge tiles. The gables are coped, and there are square ashlar stacks with moulded caps. The house is three storeys high and originally had three windows. The upper two floors feature two-light stone mullioned casement windows, with some small sash windows inserted. The ground floor has a three-light stone mullioned casement window. A central doorway has a moulded architrave surround and a triangular pediment supported by cut stone brackets. A two-storey wing extends to the right, featuring a tiled roof, a tall ashlar stack to the gable end, a one-light window on the first floor, and two two-light windows on the ground floor, all with stone mullioned casements. A segmental headed entrance is located on the right-hand return. A two-storey ā€˜L’-plan extension to the rear incorporates edge-roll mouldings on the window openings. The interior has been altered, but original details such as doors, hinges, and flagged floors have been retained. The roof structure is plain, with a small collar beam set below the ridge.
