Description
Woodland Cottage, formerly the Sanatorium of the Royal High School, is a school sanatorium built in Gothic style between 1883 and 1884, later converted into two houses in 1919. It was designed by WG Habershon.
The building is constructed from rock-faced Pennant limestone rubble and features a Welsh slate roof. It has a cruciform plan with a lantern over a central hall. The exterior is single storey with an attic, showcasing mullion and transom windows. There is a pointed arch doorway located in a gabled porch, which includes a plank door. The central lantern and vent have a conical roof, while the rest of the building is topped with steeply pitched roofs and a tall chimney stack with offsets.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is likely to have been altered due to its subdivision into two houses.
