Description
Lambridge Buildings in Larkhall consists of six consecutive shops with accommodation above, dating from the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed from limestone ashlar, with the ground floor painted, and the roofs are not visible from the street. The terrace is a single width and double depth, featuring shops with entrances on the left side.
The exterior stands three storeys high and is single bay wide. Each house has a shopfront, with Nos. 1, 4, and 6 likely being original, while No. 1 was previously a public house. No. 5 may date from the late 19th century, and Nos. 2 and 3 are modern constructions. Nos. 3, 4, and 5 are well-preserved examples. No. 3 features a twelve-light window with timber mullions and a transom, while No. 5 has a four-light window with delicate mullions. No. 6 includes an eight-light window and fascias supported by console brackets. There is a sill band at the first-floor level, and the first-floor windows are eight-over-eight sashes with cornice heads and console brackets. Each house has a separate cornice, with the terrace stepping up from No. 1 on the right. Each house has a stack with pots on the right side, and the end wall of No. 6 shows toothing, indicating that the terrace was intended to extend further. The rear elevation has not been seen. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, No. 1 was known as The White Lion Inn at some point.
