Description

Durley Cottage is a late 18th-century house with a south extension dating to the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone, with some brick window headers, and has pantile roofs and gable end brick stacks. The original plan comprises a through-passage and a single-depth, two-room layout. The two-storey front has a symmetrical design with a central door flanked by windows on either side. The ground floor windows are 12-pane sashes set beneath cambered heads. The first-floor windows are also 12-pane sashes, positioned below the eaves line, though they were replaced during a previous survey. The front door is a plain wooden door with a single light, sheltered by a flat hood supported by thin iron poles. A mid-20th century glazed door serves a south-facing lean-to extension. The interior was not inspected. Durley Cottage is a modest but uncommon example of local vernacular architecture.
