Description
The Old Rectory, located in Wiston, was originally known as Wiston Rectory until the mid-19th century. The main part of the house dates from around 1800 and features two storeys with three windows on the south side and three on the east side. The exterior is finished with roughcast, and it has overhanging eaves and a hipped slate roof. The central window bay projects slightly and is topped with a hip. The windows have Venetian shutters, with sash windows on the first floor that retain their glazing bars, while the ground floor has modern casement or French windows. The entrance includes a wide doorway flanked by pilasters, a projecting cornice, and a low rectangular fanlight. At the rear, there is a later addition with a higher elevation that also has three windows facing east. A plaque above a French window on the ground floor of the east front notes that Baron Raimund von Zur-Mullen, a music teacher who lived from 1854 to 1931, resided here.
