Description
Ewhurst Manor is a historic moated manor house originally built by Thomas Peverel during the reign of Edward I. While the moat still exists, the only remaining part of the original structure is the Gateway with an attached porter's lodge. The current building is a 16th-century house that was once larger and is L-shaped, constructed from timber framing with red brick infilling. The south front has been refaced with red brick on the ground floor, while the upper part is tile hung. It features a tiled roof and casement windows. The east front showcases a stone chimney breast with a crow-stepped brick stack, along with another chimney breast in the center that has been converted into a bay. Each wing of the house has three windows. A photograph of the manor is available in the National Buildings Record, and there is an article about it in the Sussex County Magazine, Volume 3, page 797.
