Description
Old Workhouse Cottages is an L-shaped medieval timber-framed building of "wealden" type, originally constructed as a hall house. It was later converted into the Parish Poor-house and is now divided into three cottages. The ground floor has been rebuilt using red and brown brick, with plaster infilling and curved braces above. The projecting wings extend over the ends of the floor joists and bressummers. Curved braces support the eaves of the recessed center. The building features a hipped slate roof, which was probably thatched originally, and has horizontally-sliding sash windows. It is two storeys tall with four windows. The L-wing at the back, which has squares of plaster infilling, is contemporary or built shortly after the main structure. Inside, there is a crown post roof.
