Description
Little Orchards is a 16th-century timber-framed house that has been enlarged in the 19th century and more recently. The building is L-shaped, with the original north-south range consisting of two bays. The central truss features a tie beam and one curved strut visible from the outside. At the north end, there is a prominent chimney breast made of local stone, topped with a later brick stack. The ground floor room at the north end includes an open fireplace with stone jambs and a brick surround, along with a ceiling that has exposed stop-chamfered joists. The front, facing east, was refaced in brick around 1800. The roof is tiled and hipped at the south end, and there are three modern casement windows. A two-storey wing from the 19th century has been added to the west side, with a brick ground floor and a tile-hung first floor. The south end of the original range has been reconstructed and extended with a single-storey addition. Additionally, a verandah supported by wooden posts has been added to the east front. In a first-floor room at the north end of the original range, an original window with wood mullions and iron bars has been uncovered.
