Description

Numbers 70 and 71 on Church Lane are a single building from the 17th century, part of the Goodwood Estate. It has one storey and an attic, featuring a plain tile roof that is hipped on the north side and slopes low to the rear over outshuts in number 71 and part of number 70. The walls are made of flint with red brick dressings and quoins. The front has four windows, along with one gabled and one flat-roofed modern dormer, both with modern casements. Inside, the south and middle ground floor rooms have stopped and chamfered beams running on a north-south axis, along with joists. The middle room has a fireplace with a wooden bressumer and a north partition wall that is likely timber framed from the 17th century. The north ground floor room features a heavy chamfered beam on an east-west axis with joists, and a section of clunch walling with brick lacing courses at the rear.
