Description

The Cawley Almshouses, also known as the Hospital of St Bartholomew, were built in 1625 as almshouses and converted into a workhouse in 1681. The building is two storeys high and features seven windows. It is constructed of painted brick with a red tiled roof. The chapel is located in the center and projects towards the road. Above the doorway is a two-light pointed window, with a crow-stepped gable and a wooden bellcote above it. Inside, the pews are dated 1626. Modern wings have been added to either side of the original building.
