Description
The Queen Victoria Tavern is a public house located on Bersted Street in South Berstead. It consists of two sections that are aligned at right angles to the street. The southern part dates from the early 18th century or earlier and has a plain appearance, while the northern section is somewhat irregular and likely dates from the early 19th century, although it has been modified.
The southern portion is constructed of brick, with some areas rendered. It is two storeys high and features a hipped, tiled roof with a ridge chimney and a brick modillion eaves cornice. There are two widely spaced casement windows on the west side.
The northern portion is also two storeys and has a tiled roof with cresting. The roof is hipped at the north end and includes a short gabled projection to the west at the south end. This section is rendered and has five sash windows on the west side, with the upper windows featuring glazing bars, along with one small window. The main entrance has a seven-panel door, three of which are glazed, and a fanlight with crossed glazing bars. All the listed buildings on the south side of the street form a group.
