Description
The Norfolk Hotel, likely built in the 1840s and later extended, features an impressive elongated facade set back diagonally at the corner of Aldwick Road and West Street. The building stands three storeys tall and is finished in stucco. It has 17 windows, which were increased from 7 after 1898. The ground floor is drafted, with pilasters between the windows, which are fitted with sashes that do not have glazing bars. The first-floor windows are adorned with pediments on brackets, with the middle three being segmental. A stringcourse runs along the cills of the second-floor windows. At the center of the facade, there are free-standing royal arms supported above a low parapet. The cornice is supported by elongated brackets that are rhythmically spaced. A balcony spans the seven central bays, resting on iron columns and featuring delicate iron railings. There is a projecting glazed porch with columns, and the rear of the building is irregular.
