Description

The Church of St Peter is a church that was rebuilt in 1846. It is constructed from coursed Bargate stone with ashlar dressings and has slate roofs. The building features a nave and a north aisle, with a chancel to the east and a gabled porch to the south. At the west end, there is a square bellcote covered in wood shingles, which has double louvred-light openings on both the north and south sides. The bellcote is topped with a pyramidal roof, a ball, and a weathervane finial.

The west end is buttressed and includes a quatrefoil roundel above two lancet windows, all of which have linked hood moulds. On the south side, there is one two-light window in the Decorated Style and one window with plate tracery, both under hood mouldings. Between the lancet windows of the chapel, there is a gabled offset buttress, also under hood mouldings, with sill bands and string courses connecting the windows and buttresses. A corbel band runs along the eaves. The east end features a three-light stepped lancet window with human head stops on the hood moulding.

The south porch has a trefoil entry with a chamfered surround leading to a planked door. Inside, the church has chalk facing and a triple arcade on octagonal piers. The ceiling is panelled, and there are 19th-century fittings. Notably, there is an octagonal stone font made of white and coloured marble, featuring deep panels on the octagonal bowl and a square stem with attached foliage capital shafts. This font is a copy of one found in Bosham Church, Sussex.
