Description

This is a house dating from around 1910, designed by Ernest Newton. It is constructed of brown brick with red brick detailing and has hipped roofs covered in plain tiles. The layout is L-shaped, with an entrance range forming a courtyard in the re-entrant angle, and a garden range extending from the left return front. The house is two storeys high and has diagonal chimney stacks on the rear ridge. A modillioned eaves cornice runs around the building. The windows are wood-framed with leaded glazing; each range has three windows on the first floor and three below, with flat-roofed angle-bay windows in the centre of each wing. The main entrance is on the right end of the right-hand wing, positioned between flanking lights, sheltered by an open segmental porch supported by Ionic columns. The left return front features projecting wings at each end, each with a single four-light casement window on each floor; the lower windows are mullioned and have a transom. A recessed central range has three first-floor windows and two ground-floor windows, one on each side of a central double door. The double door is half-glazed and positioned within a flanking light, with a semi-circular Ionic portico above.
