Description

High Pitfold Farmhouse is a 16th-century building with additions from the early 17th and early 19th centuries. The main garden front is divided into sections. On the left is a two-bay portion with one storey and an attic, notable for its irregular appearance with 19th-century casement windows. The ground floor is brick, while the first floor is timber-framed and tile-hung, topped with a steeply-pitched tiled roof and a chimney at the left end. To the right are a wide bay, dating to the 17th century, and a narrower bay from the 19th century. Both are stuccoed and have tiled roofs. First-floor windows project above the eaves, varying in height, with a gable over the right bay. The chimney to the right of the 17th-century bay has been rebuilt externally, but retains older brick and stone within. Some timber framing is visible on the garden front, mainly obscured by 19th-century extensions. Inside, there is extensive exposed timber with swell-head posts, numerous carpenter's marks, and a side-purlin roof featuring wind braces and queen-post trusses.
