Description

Tigbourne Cottage is a cottage dating from circa 1899, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is constructed of coursed Bargate stone blocks with ironstone galleting, featuring brick quoins and dressings under a steeply pitched plain tiled roof. The cottage is two storeys high, with brick end stacks. The first floor has two three-light casement windows beneath cambered brick arches. The ground floor has two casements beneath segmental arches constructed of red and blue brick. A half-glazed door is located centrally, set within a moulded surround and sheltered by a flat hood. A pentice extension extends from the left end, with further extensions to the rear. The property is described in Nikolaus Pevsner’s Buildings of England: Surrey (1971), page 487.
