Description
Mansion House Farm House is a house dating from the 15th century, with 17th century additions to the street front and 18th century extensions to the right. It was restored in the 20th century. The building is timber framed, with brick extensions and cladding on the front, set on a coursed stone plinth. The framing is exposed on the left return front and on the rear gable, featuring rendered infill on the first floor and brick infill on the gable. The roof is plain tiled, hipped over the right extension, with four fine diagonal stacks across the centre of the left wing, a further ridge stack at the front, and a corbelled square stack on the right side of the right range.
The original house consists of four framed bays parallel to the street, with a cross wing to the left that has been extended, and an entrance porch added, along with further extensions to the right. The house is two storeys high, featuring a gable front bay of the cross wing that projects to the left, a projecting gabled entrance bay in the centre, and a two-bay range to the right. On the left, there is a two-storey gabled square bay window with a four-light leaded casement under a moulded wooden lintel on the first floor, and a three-light window below. The entrance bay has a cambered head casement window on the first floor and a further four-light leaded casement on the first floor to the right. There is a cambered head ground floor window to the right, with blocked windows at the end. The central entrance features an arched opening with a moulded brick string course on piers, leading to a 20th century ribbed door in the porch recess. Above the string course over the ground floor of the entrance bay is a stone shield in a quatrefoil surround, with a square rendered plaque panel in the gable.
On the left return front, there are two diamond mullion five-light windows on the first floor to the left, and irregular leaded casement fenestration across the ground floor. A 20th century arched ribbed door is located to the left.
Inside, there is a deep brick fireplace with salt cupboards on the ground floor, and the exposed framing is visible throughout.
