Description

The Church of All Saints is a Roman Catholic church located on Chichele Road in Oxted. The chancel was built between 1913 and 1914, while the rest of the church was completed from 1918 to 1919. It was designed by Leonard Williams. The building features a coursed squared stone basement with red and burnt brick above, accented by small panels of flint that create a simplified chequer pattern. The roof is made of plain tiles and reflects a Late Perpendicular style that incorporates Arts and Crafts elements. The church consists of a chancel, nave, and aisles, all over a partial basement, and is supported by buttresses with set-offs. The chancel includes a four-light east window and two-light windows on the north and south sides. There is a single-storey projection and a small bell-cote to the north, as well as a stair projection to the south. The nave features low three-light windows, while the west end has two three-light windows above two Tudor-arched doorways, with two-light windows at the aisle ends.

Inside, the church has arcades with moulded arches that die back into plain piers and responds. The painted and gilded waggon roof was decorated in 1928 according to the design of Geoffrey Webb. There are triple sedilia and an elaborate carved, painted, and gilded reredos, erected in 1927 by the Art and Book Co., which is a copy of Fra Angelico's Coronation of the Virgin, now housed in the Louvre. The finely carved rood screen was designed by Leonard Williams and made by Bridgeman of Lichfield. The organ gallery and screen were also designed by Geoffrey Webb and made by Bridgeman. Additional features include a pulpit with a sounding board, as well as a font and cover.
