Description

A cottage row dating from the 17th century, with an 18th-century addition to the east and 19th-century alterations. The building is timber-framed, with brick infill to the west and east ends, brick cladding to the centre, and a tile-hung gable end to the west. It has a plain tiled roof, gabled to the west and a mansard roof to the eastern 18th-century extension. There is a large external stack to the west, a ridge stack, and a smaller end stack to the 18th-century extension.

The earlier house to the west is two storeys high, with five bays and end chimneystacks. To the east is a one-storey and attic addition with two bays and end chimneystacks. The western part of the south side shows exposed timber-framing to the west bay and some grey headers to the adjoining part of the first floor. The fenestration is irregular, comprising five casement windows and a right-side gabled brick porch. The eastern part of the south side has two penticed dormers, a brick dentil cornice, three cambered-headed casement windows (the left one a converted doorcase), and a doorcase with hood and plank door. The north side features a catslide roof to the east, some exposed framing, and a 20th-century flat-roofed brick porch to the western end containing a part-glazed 20th-century door.

The interior of No. 3 shows exposed ceiling beams, including a spine beam with run-out stops, and two open fireplaces.

The building is designated at Grade II for its architectural interest as a 17th-century timber-framed building with an 18th-century mansard-roofed addition.
