Description

The Old Rectory, including the west wing, is a house located in Bletchingley. The west wing dates from the 17th century and underwent significant alterations in the late 19th century, while the main house was remodeled in the late 18th century. The west wing features Reigate rubble stone and brick dressings at the lower level, with stock brick above. It has a plain tiled hipped roof topped with a wooden cupola beneath a pyramidal roof, and an iron weathervane to the right, along with an end ridge stack to the left.

The main house is rendered on a cement plinth, with a parapet that partially obscures the hipped slate roof. There are rendered end stacks and three diagonal 17th-century stacks at the junction with the wing. The main house is square, with the west wing extending at right angles to the left. It has two storeys, with a cornice at the base of the parapet. The first floor features five glazing bar sash windows under segmental heads in open boxes, while the ground floor has taller glazing rear sash windows under flat hoods. The central entrance consists of double glazed doors set in a Doric fluted pilaster surround beneath a flat porch hood.

On the right-hand return front, there is a Victorian single-storey angle bay window at the corner. The rear has an arched niche at the center. The west wing is one storey with an attic, featuring five glazing bar sash lucarne windows and segmental-headed casement windows on the ground floor. A projecting bay on the left end contains planked double doors on the right side. Inside, there are panelled doors and plaster cornices that have survived.
