Description

Littleworth Cottage is an early 19th-century gamekeeper’s cottage, later converted into a house. It has undergone minor alterations in the late 19th century and the 20th century. The ground floor is built of sandstone with ironstone inlays, and features red brick end quoins and window dressings. The first floor is rendered with incised lines to resemble stonework, although the rear elevation is of Flemish bond brickwork with grey headers. The roof is hipped and covered in peg tiles, with a central brick chimney stack. The cottage has two storeys and two windows. It has 19th-century casement windows. A late 19th-century porch has chamfered wooden supports, bargeboards, and a metal finial, with the sides enclosed with glazing installed in the late 20th century. A brick lean-to addition with four cambered windows is on the rear elevation.

Inside, the parlour has a spine beam with a one-inch chamfer. The living room contains an open fireplace with a wooden bressumer, partially filled in, and a wooden cupboard. A simple staircase with stick balusters and a square newel post topped with a pyramidal cap may be original. Upstairs, the property retains original doors and 19th-century built-in wardrobes.

The cottage was originally constructed as the gamekeeper’s cottage for the Ford Manor estate.
