Description

Nos 83 to 89 on London Street in Chertsey are an interesting urban feature at the end of the street. No 83 is an early 19th-century building, two stories high with three windows, including a blank recess above the central entrance on the first floor. It is constructed of amber brick and has sash windows. The hipped slate roof has an eaves soffit, and the ground floor features added splay bay windows. The doorcase is adorned with slender Doric fluted columns and a moulded entablature, leading to a six-panel door with sunk upper panels and panelled reveals. There is a front garden with a fence.

Nos 85 and 87, built around 1830-1840, are a two-story pair with an advanced center that has two windows wide, totaling four windows. They feature a moulded cornice at the center and parapets on the sides. The sash windows have glazing bars, and the ground floor windows are supported by consoles with small cornices. The entrances are located at the sides, each with doors that have two vertical panels, fanlights, and small wooden porches. The front gardens have low walls, and No 85 retains its railings.

No 89, also early 19th century, is two stories high with three windows. It is finished in stucco with painted lines and has a parapet with a cope and a slate roof. The first-floor sash windows have side glazing bars and wooden louvred shutters. The ground floor features a splay bay with a sash window that has margin bars. The entrance door has three sunk panels, a narrow fanlight, and a flat canopy supported by iron brackets. An ornamental gate with quasi-spear railings completes the front. Nos 83 to 91 form a cohesive group.
