Description

This is a group of buildings, probably mainly from the 18th century, with later alterations. The group consists of numbers 58 and 60 Guildford Street, and formerly included number 56, which was demolished in 1987 following planning permission.

Number 56 was originally stuccoed and painted, with an old tile roof. It had four sash windows on the first floor, now with centre glazing bars only, and an altered ground floor containing modern shops. The front door featured six fielded panels and a flat arch. A weather-boarded side wall had a projecting end chimney.

Number 58 is a two-storey building with a painted brick facade and tile roof. It has two windows at the first floor and a ground-floor shop.

Number 60, likely late 18th century, has three windows at the first floor, including a central blank panel. It is constructed of amber brick and has a parapet with a stone coping. The sash windows have gauged flat arches and vertical glazing bars. The ground floor contains a shop with a wooden facade and a separate entrance with a wooden doorcase, as well as one sash window facing south. A one-storey shop wing extends to the north, with a modern front.
