Description
Priory Lake Cottage is an 18th-century rebuilding of an earlier timber-framed house, retaining a low-ceilinged, Tudor-like shape. Timber framing is visible in the west end wall, and a chimney has been partly rebuilt using old, narrow bricks. The front facade is two storeys and attic in height, with three windows. It has a steeply-pitched, swept tiled roof with a later wood modillion eaves cornice and three flat, modern dormers. The walls are of coursed chalk blocks galleted with ironstone, and feature cut voussoirs to the arches of modern, small-paned casement windows. A six-panel door, with top glazing, is set within a wood trellis porch. A pentice, dating to circa 1800 and built of similar materials, is located at the back left of the property. The interior features old floors of thick planks and a queen-post roof with stout side purlins. The cottage was originally occupied by the agent of the Reigate Priory estate.
