Description
The Lodge to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, built in 1884 by R Norman Shaw, is designed in the Vernacular Revival style. It has a T-shaped plan with a ground floor made of red brick and a first floor that is tile hung. The roof is plain tiled and features a tall brick chimneystack. The building is one storey with attics in the gable end and has three windows with irregular spacing.
A prominent feature of the front is a full-height projecting gable that includes carved bargeboards and close-studded timber-framing above a six-light casement window, with two framed panels below. There is a porch beneath the jetties, supported by curved brackets, which has mullioned windows and double doors. The left side elevation features a three-light casement on the first floor and a canted bay on the ground floor, with the projecting gable supported on brackets. The right side elevation has a half-hipped gable.
