Description
Starling’s is a house dating from the 17th century, with a significant extension to the front added in the early 20th century and restored more recently. The rear portion is timber-framed, resting on a brick and rendered plinth with brick infill and tile hanging on the first floor to the left. The front has whitewashed brickwork and tile hanging above. The roofs are slate, hipped to the front, with plain tiled roofs to the rear and left, the latter featuring a hip. A large brick stack with a corbelled top is located to the left of centre on the rear.
The front of the house is two storeys high, with a regular arrangement of three leaded casement windows on the first floor. A planked door is situated at the left end, recessed within a half-glazed gabled porch. A pentice roofed conservatory is set back at the angle of the two ranges. The original entrance front is now at the rear. The rear section is two storeys and an attic, featuring a gabled dormer window with leaded casements on the first floor. A part-glazed planked door is located to the right, set within a recess, and has a pent roof extension to its right.
Inside, features include stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, square panel wall framing to the rear of the house, and a large brick fireplace.
