Description
Cobbetts is a house located in Abinger, with origins dating back to the 16th century on the right side, and 17th-century extensions to the left, along with 1930s extensions at the right end. The building features a timber frame, which is underbuilt in whitewashed brick, with exposed brick infilling above. There are brick extensions and a garage with tile hanging on the right. The roof is plain tiled and the plan is T-shaped, with the oldest two-bay wing gable end facing right and the 17th-century extensions to the left.
The house is two storeys high, showcasing multiple corbelled stacks at the junction of the two sections, positioned to the right of centre, and raised eaves on the 17th-century build to the left. The left side has two bays with curved tension bracing on the first floor. There is one large, three-light diamond-pane window on the left and three smaller windows on the first floor, along with one square-pane leaded window below. Each floor of the right-hand gable features one leaded window. The entrance door to the lobby is located to the right of centre. A 20th-century single-storey pentice and wing to the right are not of special interest. At the rear, there is a rubblestone gable with some vertical Horsham slab hanging in the centre and an additional gable to the left.
