Description
This barn, located approximately 40 metres south of Little Stumbleholes, likely dates from the early 18th century and incorporates earlier timber elements. It underwent alterations in the late 18th or early 19th century and again in the late 20th century. The structure is timber-framed and features 20th-century weatherboard cladding with a plain tile roof. It has two storeys and central opposing cart entrances, with a 20th-century board door at the front and a boarded entrance at the rear.
Inside, the barn includes a sole plate, unjowelled wall posts, and a frame that originally had three panels in each bay below the midrail and four above, now with later infill studs. There are arched and straight braces connecting the wall posts to the midrail and wall plate, as well as to tie-beams that support slightly curved queen struts clasping through the purlins. The barn retains old rafters, and late 18th or early 19th century oxen stalls have been partitioned off in the left bay.
