Description

This is an early 17th-century threshing barn, originally situated east of Stumblehole Farmhouse. It has undergone some alterations in the 18th or 19th century and again in the 20th century, and is now used as a gardener’s store and workshop. The barn is timberframed; the lower part is largely clad in brickwork laid in a stretcher bond pattern, while the upper part has weatherboarding on a brick plinth. The roof is tiled. Double cart doors are visible on the north side, fixed with pintle hinges. A 20th-century addition, including a window and door, obscures a cart entrance on the south side.

Inside, the barn features three bays with jowled posts and slightly curved tension braces. The roof is an angled queenpost design without a ridgepiece. A remarkable original feature is the central timber threshing floor. Later 20th-century floors and a partition have been added to the south side of the barn.
