Description

Two early 19th century houses are located on the south-east side of High Street. They are three storeys high and each has two windows. The facades are stuccoed, and a parapet tops the buildings. Nos 44 and 46 feature a dentilled cornice below the parapet and grooved pilasters flanking the front above the ground floor. Originally, pleasing 19th-century shop fronts with balconied areas were present at Nos 40 and 42, and at Nos 44 and 46. Only Nos 44 and 46 now retain their balconies. French windows with moulded architrave surrounds are on the first floor; those at Nos 44 and 46 have cornices above them. The sash windows on the second floor have intact glazing bars. Nos 40 to 64 (even) form a group. A photograph of the building is held within the National Monuments Record.
