Description
The Brockham War Memorial is a First World War memorial, dating from around 1920, although the exact date is not known. It features an octagonal stone column set on an octagonal plinth, which is raised on five octagonal stone steps within a low railed enclosure with wooden posts. The tapering column has a moulded base and a projecting top adorned with moulded shields and a Latin cross fleury. The plinth has recessed panels that display inscriptions in black lettering.
On Side 1, the inscription reads: "YE WHO PASS BY/ REMEMBER/ THE GALLANT DEAD/ MEN OF THIS/ VILLAGE WHO GAVE/ THEIR LIVES IN /THE GREAT WAR /1914-1919/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." Sides 2 to 8 feature six panels inscribed with the names of 33 men who died during the First World War, arranged alphabetically by the years of their death. The remaining panel lists the 13 men who died during the Second World War.
