Description

Old Westmoor Cottage is a Grade II listed building that represents the remains of a hall house dating from the 15th century, which was altered in the 16th century, extended to the rear in the 17th century, and restored in the 19th century. The cottage features a timber frame that is exposed on the entrance front, which faces east, with colourwashed render infill and a rendered underbuild. It has a brick porch and hipped plain tiled roofs with end gablets. The entrance front is positioned at right angles to the street and consists of two storeys with an inserted stack to the right of the centre.

The structure has three framed bays with curved first-floor bracing at the ends. The windows are casement style, with two on the first floor and two below, the left-hand pair being leaded. Notable architectural features include fine two-storey brick pilasters with flint inlays that flank an oval panel on the first floor, as well as a gauged brick, round-headed arched entrance on the ground floor. The door surround has brick imposts and a central panel to the cornice over the ground floor. At the rear, there are gabled wings at right angles, with one to the left that has an additional entrance. Inside, the cottage has crown post roofs in the front and south ranges, and much of the timber in the roof of the wing has been reused.
