Description

The Post Office is a house with an attached post office, dating from the 16th century to the rear right, with 20th-century extensions to the left projecting onto the street. The rear section is timber-framed and clad with whitewashed brick below and roughcast above. The extension to the left is red brick below with roughcast above, and has tile hanging on the first-floor gable end facing the street. The building has plain tiled roofs, with a half-hipped roof to the left, and an open-gabled dormer window to the right. There is an end stack to the rear right, and further stacks to the rear. The building has an L-shaped plan.

The right side of the building has one first-floor casement window, with two ground-floor casements below. A cambered-head, leaded window is located on the right-hand return front of the wing. The left extension has a 4-light casement window on the first floor, with two bowed glazing bar shop windows below, flanking a central glazed shop door. A further door is set back in a projecting break in the re-entrant angle between the shop and the house.

Inside the old range to the rear, the timber framing is exposed, consisting of two framed bays with exposed ceiling frames and a partition wall. A deep brick fireplace is also present.
