Description

Brown's is a house dating largely to the 17th century, with significant alterations and extensions in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The original timber frame is now largely hidden by a red brick facade, topped with a plain tiled roof that is hipped on the left and half-hipped on the right. The house sits on a low plinth and features a brick eaves cornice embellished with modillion details. There are substantial brick stacks, one original on the left, a rebuilt stack on the right, and others at the rear. The windows are timber-framed with leaded diamond panes, with five windows on each floor. The upper windows have arched heads, and are a mix of three- and four-light designs. A ribbed and studded door is centrally positioned within a pentice-roofed brick and timber porch. The rear elevation has an irregular arrangement of glazing bar sash windows, retaining their original glazing bars and set within cambered heads.
