Description
This is a house, originally built in the mid-16th century, that has been extended and divided into separate dwellings. The original section facing the street dates to the mid-16th century, with further extensions added in the 17th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The front of the building is timber-framed and exposed, with a rendered plinth and rendered infill. The rear extensions are whitewashed with roughcast cladding and have plain tiled roofs of differing heights, including a hipped roof over the original section and a gablet facing the street. A two-story section with an attic extends to the rear left. It has two dormers – one gabled and facing the street, and one with a flat roof on the left. There are large brick stacks, one to the rear of the left return front, and another on the right-hand side of the street front. The street facade has two framed bays with projecting posts and corner bracing on the first floor. There are two casement windows on the first floor and two windows below. A panelled door, leading to No.9, is located to the right of centre, within a gabled, half-glazed roughcast porch. The left-hand return front features three casement windows on the first floor and two windows on the ground floor. A penticed roof porch is situated in the re-entrant angle, providing access to No. 10. The wing to the left is taller, with one casement window on each floor and an end ridge stack on the left. There are further doors on the right-hand return front.
